With the vultures circling the New York Mets, who have been stuck in a 5-16 rut in the month of June, owner Steve Cohen will speak to the media before Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
“I will be doing a press conference tomorrow before the game. You will get it straight from me.”
The last time Cohen spoke on the Mets current predicament, he told Joel Sherman of the New York Post that he was not in the business of blowing things up, which many assumed would mean both General Manager Billy Eppler and Manager Buck Showalter are safe.
Angst among fans and media alike has ratcheted up in recent days following the Mets 7-6 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, where the bullpen blew a 6-3 lead.
Showalter said that Adam Ottavino was not available and that he wanted to save David Robertson for the ninth inning.
However it was pointed out by many that neither Ottavino nor Robertson had pitched much during the previous week leading up to Sunday afternoon. Ottavino even told reporters following Sunday’s game that he was available to pitch.
Is this the beginning of the end for Showalter who was the Manager of the Year in the National League just last season?
It would be hard to fathom. We will learn alot about Steve Cohen as the owner of this team one way or the other on Wednesday.
