Steve Pikiell to Receive Contract Extension
Rutgers Head Basketball Coach Steve Pikiell is set to receive a contract extension to remain head coach for the foreseeable future.
According to the Asbury Park Press, Pikiell is already under contract through the 2025-26 season. It is unclear how exactly the extension will play out, but this will be the third extension Rutgers has give Pikiell since it hired him to turn around the program in 2016.
Pikeill has done a tremendous job as head coach. He not only has turned around the program, he has made it into a perennial tournament team. Pikiell is 98-89 in six seasons at the helm, and took the team to the NCAA Tournament in 2021, where it beat Clemson 60-56 in the first round for the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory in 38 years.

This season, Rutgers went 18-12 and 12-8 in the Big Ten. They are about to embark on the Big Ten Tournament on Friday as the number 4 seed. If Rutgers should have success in the Big Ten Tournament this week, they will have an excellent shot at returning to the Big Dance.
Pikeill has also developed a number of major contributors on and off the court with the likes of Geo Baker, Ron Harper Jr. and Caleb McConnell — all of whom have enjoyed decorated careers at Rutgers.
An official statement on an extension could be made Friday.
