Anthony Rizzo Aces Latest Rehab Test with Patriots
Anthony Rizzo made his debut at TD Bank Ballpark in a Somerset Patriots uniform, as the Yankees first baseman was one of a trio of Bombers making rehab assignments with the Double-A club on Tuesday night.
Rizzo certainly didn’t disappoint. The three-time All-Star went 2-for-2 with a gargantuan home run to right as the Patriots won 4-2 over the Reading Fightin’ Phils. He also played first base for four innings, showing that he is making great progress from the right forearm fracture that has sidelined him for the better part of two months.
Rizzo is expected to rehab with the Patriots again on Wednesday. According to the New York Post, it may not be much longer before Rizzo makes a return to the Majors.
Jon Berti (calf strain) went 0-for-3 in his rehab assignment with Somerset on Tuesday, while Ian Hamilton (lat strain) earned the win, striking out three over an inning and a third in the second game of his rehab assignment.
While the Yankees did place Hamilton on the 60-Day IL, he could make a return very soon if he progresses well. So far so good. Hamilton has thrown two-and-a-third perfect innings in relief with six strikeouts.
SPENCER JONES
Meanwhile, the Yankees number two prospect continues to turn heads. He went 3-for-4 with a double and triple and three RBI. He had the deciding, go-ahead triple in the eighth, marking it the second consecutive game in which Jones has had the deciding knock.
