Yankees & Mets Games Postponed
The rain is wrecking havoc on the sports schedule Friday.
The Yankees game at home against the Texas Rangers has been rained out, and will be made up as part of a single-admission double-header on Sunday, May 8, with Game 1 beginning at 1:35.
The Yankees and Rangers have not faced one another this season. Friday would have been their first match-up. The Yankees are looking to get back on track after watching their 11-game winning streak come to a halt on Wednesday at Toronto.
The Mets game in Philadelphia was also postponed due to the inclement weather. It will not be made up this weekend, but rather, the game will be made up as part of a day-night double-header on Saturday August 20.
The Mets beat Philadelphia in historic fashion on Thursday night, scoring seven run in the top of the ninth inning to turn a 7-1 deficit into a thrilling 8-7 victory. It was the first time the Mets won a game where it trailed by six runs in the ninth inning since Setptember 13, 1997 when the Mets beat the Montreal Expos.
The Mets victory also ended a string of 857 consecutive losses by MLB clubs when trailing by six runs or more in the ninth, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Mets and Phillies will meet up again on Saturday at 4 p.m. when Max Scherzer toes the rubber for the Amazin’s.
Locally, the Somerset Patriots postponed their game against New Hampshire to Sunday afternoon for a double-header beginning at 12 noon. Saturday’s game will be a single game beginning at 6:35 p.m.
Rutgers Softball was supposed to begin a series against Michigan State this afternoon in Piscataway. That game has been postponed. A make-up is yet to be determined. Rutgers is battling to stay alive for a berth in the Big Ten Tournament.
Rutgers Women’s Lacrosse is still expected to play their Big Ten Tournament game against Northwestern today at 5:30 p.m. in Piscataway.
