New York Jets and Aaron Glenn in Holding Pattern; Hire Awaits
The New York Jets and Aaron Glenn are in a holding pattern.
The Jets and Glenn, along with presumptive general manager candidate, Lance Newmark had a lengthy meeting on Tuesday, but both Glenn and Newmark left the building without a firm signed contract agreement in place. Of course that sent an already overly negative fanbase into a tizzy, but the expectation is the sides are still talking.
As has been pointed out by numerous Jets beat writers, it is not unusual for talks to drag on into the next day. It happened with Robert Saleh when he interviewed for the Jets job in 2021.
Throughout Tuesday’s day leaks, rumors, and speculation spread about a potential coaching staff. Names like Broncos Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak, Rams Passing Game Coordinator Nick Caley, and Lions Quarterbacks Coach Mark Brunell were tossed around as possible Offensive Coordinator candidates for Glenn’s staff.
Long-time NFL assistant and former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Steve Wilks has been speculated as a potential Defensive Coordinator.
There was even speculation from Fox Sports’ Jordan Shultz of a reunion with long-time special teams coach Mike Westhoff.
There is no telling when a deal may be reached. Of course, the New Orleans Saints lurk in the background here. They were scheduled to meet with Glenn today, but that meeting was pushed back due to the winter weather down in the Bayou.
If Glenn agrees to coach the Jets, that meeting with New Orleans would be a moot point.
Glenn is expected to team up with Lance Newmark, the Washington Commanders Assistant General Manager. Newmark will assume the General Manager’s seat in New York. Newmark and Glenn worked together in Detroit, with the latter highly regarded in scouting and player procurement both in Detroit and in D.C.
New York Jets Fans
New York Jets fans are indeed an ornery group; nothing pleases these people. And of course with the pending signing of Glenn, many have already called it a failed proposition, calling Aaron Glenn “Saleh 2.0,” and chastising the Jets for selecting another D-Coordinator as coach.
Just say serenity now Jets fans. Serenity now!
