Brooklyn Nets Must Continue Tank for Lotto
The Brooklyn Nets currently sit at 14-29 which is much better than anyone thought they would be and is much better than many Nets fans may have wanted coming into the year.
With the deadline a month away, the Brooklyn Nets have been busy moving key pieces. They traded forward Dorian Finney Smith to the Lakers, and guard Dennis Schroeder to Golden State. The question is simply, who’s next?
Well, it should start with buying Deangelo Russel out as this will come as the easiest move that the team will be able to make. D-Lo probably doesn’t have a future with the team and is quite frankly too good to tank this Nets team.
After the Nets buy Russell out, they need to turn their focus onto moving forward Cam Johnson who is having a career year. Johnson, who is averaging a tad under 20 points per game with 3 assists and 4 rebounds per game, will certainly be valuable to a championship-contending team.
Johnson, who has two years left on his contract, should easily be able to demand at least two first-round picks. This is a move the Nets must make.
The next move should be to move on from center Nicholas Claxton for more draft capital as Claxton is a great defender and can add great defense to a contending team.
The biggest reason why the Nets must move on from Claxton and Johnson is because of their contract situation. They both have multiple years left on their deals, and the Nets should want to have as, much money as they can to spend and use the draft capital that they have acquired via trade in this upcoming summer.
If the Nets can make these moves, they are primed for another chance to make a run at whichever superstar becomes available in the upcoming off-season.
