The Latest Yankees Debacle Could Haunt Them Over the Next Two and a Half Months
The Yankees have big problems, is it fixable?
The Yankees have been falling apart over the past month and a half, and Sunday night’s 9th-inning meltdown against the divisional rival Baltimore Orioles only solidified the obvious. The Yankees must make multiple trades before the MLB trade deadline, especially to let fans know this season will not be the same as the past seven seasons.
The Yankees had a 5-3 lead with two outs in the 9th inning when Yankees SS Anthony Volpe made an error on a routine ground ball that would have ended the game. This atrocious error made the game 5-4, and gave Cedric Mullins a chance to tie, and/or win the game. Yankees’ closer Clay Holmes got Mullins to hit a routine fly ball that would have ended the game, but left fielder Alex Verdugo misjudged the fly ball and then fell trying to recover, letting the ball fall allowing two Orioles players to score and win the game 6-5. This loss will hurt the Yankees not only now, but if they can stay in competition for the divisional title at the end of the year.
The Yankees need multiple bullpen arms, at least two infielders, and one more good/great starting pitcher. The clock is ticking and if they don’t start making moves soon, they may lose out on the chance to get a player they need to another team, or even worse, they may lose their season.
It’s time for major changes in the Yankees organization with the past seven years being the same thing over and over again. Aaron Boone should not be managing this team anymore, they need better relievers than guys like Jake Cousins and Caleb Ferguson, Gleyber Torres should be on another team, and the Yankees should have a much better third baseman. I know it sounds like a lot, but the Yankees never address what they need properly, and it is why they fall short and become an extremely boring team to watch every year.
Fans are sick and tired of the General Manager, Manager, Second baseman, Third baseman, Catcher, and lack of bullpen depth with multiple complaints needing to be addressed to be considered actual World Series contenders. Will the Yankees address these needs? We will find out in just 15 days.
