London Calling the Mets and Phillies
The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have taken London, England by storm.
The NL East rivals might be having drastically different seasons right now. The Phillies are the best team in the National League, while the Mets are middling underachievers who are trying to stay out of the NL basement.
But that hasn’t stopped either team from having a blast in merry ole England. Both teams have taken in the sights and sounds of the city. From enjoying pints of Guinness to taking photos in front of the London Eye (that gigantic Ferris Wheel), it’s been a nice break from the action.

Phillies in Full Force
The games begin Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. London Time. Sean Manaea will get the ball for the Mets against Ranger Suarez. The series concludes Sunday at 10 am ET/ 3 p.m. London Time.
Can the Mets Slow Philly?
The Mets are coming off a sweep of the Washington Nationals, and have played better of late. But this will be a much stiffer challenge against the 44-win Phillies. The Phils boast one of the best pitching staffs in baseball with a 2.92 team ERA. Relievers Jeff Hoffman and Jose Alvarado boast two of the best bullpen ERAs in baseball at 0.98 and 0.72 respectively.
Counter that with the Mets who have had nothing but issues with their pitching staff, namely the bullpen which is responsible for blowing leads in seven games last month.
PREDICTION: A split of the two games. Probably the best-case scenario for the Mets is a split. Games at London Stadium tend to be on the high-scoring side. Back in 2019 when this MLB international tour started, the Yankees and Red Sox combined 50 runs. Both the Mets and Phillies will have high emotion this weekend, hoping to make an impression overseas. That might be enough to push the series split.
