Rangers Sweep Away Caps, First To Advance to Next Round
The New York Rangers are the first team to move on to the second round.
The Broadway Blue Shirts advanced after completing a four-game sweep of the Washington Capitals with a 4-2 win in Game 4 of the first round of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Despite losing an early 2-1 lead in Game 4, the Rangers tightened the reins in the third period, and completely shutdown the Caps, and its Hall of Famer Alexander Ovechkin, who was held scoreless for the fourth straight game.
RANGERS DOMIANTE THIRD PERIOD
With 16:39 to go in the game, the Rangers lit for the third time when Artemi Panarin took a pass, spun around and slapped the puck past goalie Charlie Lindgren to give New York a 3-2 advantage.
Later on the Rangers put the game on ice — pun intended — when Jack Roslovic tapped in the empty netter to close out the Rangers 4-2 victory.
UP NEXT?
The Rangers now get to wait. They will face the winner of the Carolina Hurricanes – New York Islanders series; currently Carolina leads that series three-games-to-one. Game Five between the Canes and Isles is Tuesday night.
