Knicks Upset Over Embiid Dirty Play as Big Man Nets 50 Points
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 25: Joel Embiid #21 of the Philadelphia 76ers dribbles during the third quarter against the New York Knicks during game three of the Eastern Conference First Round Playoffs at the Wells Fargo Center on April 25, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Watch out Knicks fans, the Philadelphia 76ers aren’t going to quit just yet.
EMBIID DOMINATES ON THE GLASS
Led by superstar Joel Embiid, the Sixers powered past the New York Knicks 125-114 in Game 3 of their first round playoff series. The Knicks lead is now down to 2-1. Sunday’s Game 4 at 1 p.m. will be the critical swing game that could determine the path of this series. We will have the game on Fox Sports New Jersey.
Embiid once again dominated on the floor. Despite a gimpy knee, as he plays post surgery, Embiid dropped down 50-points on 13-of-19 shooting, including going 19-of-21 from the free throw line. He became the first player in NBA history to score 50 points while taking less than 20 shots in a playoff game. Talk about impressive.
The performance comes two nights after Embiid pulled a Mark Messier and stated that the Sixers would comeback and win this series.
JOEL EMBIID A DIRTY PLAYER?
One thing that upset the Knicks on Thursday night was what most consider a dirty play by Embiid. In the first quarter Embiid found himself on the bottom of a scrum underneath the net. Knicks forward Mitchell Robinson tried to make a play on the ball, but Embiid appeared to grab his leg, and even took a swipe toward Robinson’s groin area. A foul wasn’t called.
Even former Knick Immanuel Quickly chimed in and called it a dirty play.
It will be fascinating to see how Game 4 plays out on Sunday. Will the Knicks get more physical with Embiid after his dirty play on Robinson? Will the officials start blowing the whistle more often? They have pretty much swallowed the whistle at several points in this series so far. We’ll know soon enough.
