The New York Yankees are about to get a Somerset Patriots kind of feel to their roster.
With the Bronx Bombers stuck in last place in the AL East, New York has called up outfielder Everson Pereira and infielder Oswald Peraza to the Major's. Both players of course have developed their skills at Double-A Somerset over the past couple of years.
Pereira has spent parts of the last two years in Double-A Somerset. He played in 46 games this year for the Patriots, crushing 10 homers and driving in 31, before receiving a promotion to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. With the RailRiders, Pereira has hit .312 with eight homers and 33 RBI.
On the other hand, Oswald Peraza was a member of the Somerset Patriots back in 2021. He hit .295 with 12 homers and 40 RBI in 79 games with the Patriots that season. He has spent the past two seasons in Triple-A, with a couple cups of tea with the Yankees.
In 37 games in the Bronx, Peraza hit .238 with a homer and eight RBI. He is a natural short stop, but can play other in field positions like second and third base, a necessity with Anthony Volpe manning short stop.
JASSON DOMINGUEZ PROMOTED
Meanwhile, Jasson Dominguez, who was just named the Eastern League Player of the Week after crushing the ball in the month of August, including hitting .464 last week against Reading, has been promoted to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes Barre.
Nicknamed "The Martian," Dominguez's time with the Patriots, albeit short, was quiet a wild ride.
It all started in the Championship Series of the Double-A Eastern League when Dominguez crushed three home runs in the series, including a pair in the clincher.
After a slow start to the 2023 season, Dominguez caught on, and produced an incredible summer.
In 18 games during the month of August, Dominguez has a 1.046 OPS, with a slash line .380 batting average, .438 on-base percentage, and a.608 slugging percentage with 14 RBI, 17 runs scored, 12 extra-base hits and 48 total bases.
Dominguez is hitting .254 with 15 homers and 66 RBI.
Never Forget: 22nd Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies Scheduled In New Jersey
On September 11, 2001, two planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City and a third plane hit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the horrific attacks that took place that day, and more than 700 of those people lived in or were from New Jersey.
Since that day when the series of airline hijackings and suicide attacks were committed, the United States has never been the same. However, each year, and once again on the 22nd anniversary, New Jerseyans will come together to honor and remember the lives we lost on 9/11.
“We need to acknowledge a day of rest and remembrance so that everyone is given the opportunity to observe 9/11, whether by attending a ceremony, visiting a local memorial, thanking a first responder or talking to our children about what happened on 9/11,” said Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone.
