Yankees Make Deal, Acquire Jazz Chisholm from Marlins
The New York Yankees have acquired infielder Jazz Chisholm in a deal with the Miami Marlins for Yankee’s catching prospect, Agustin Ramirez, among others.
This is a great trade for the Yankees as Chisholm is only 26-years-old and is under team control until 2027. Jazz will bring speed, and life to a team that is lacking in both of those areas. On the year, Chisholm is hitting .249 with 13 homers and 50 RBI. The Bahamas native has also stolen 22 bases this year to boot.
Chisholm will slide in at second base for the Yankees, which could signal the end of Gleyber Torres’ tenure as a Yankee.
Could Torres be involved in a deal leading up to the trade deadline? There is always the chance. The Yankees can use Torres in a deal to upgrade the bullpen, or starting rotation as they are telling fans with the acquisition of Chisholm that they are going all in this year.
Is Chisholm enough? If the Yankees are going to be serious contenders like this deal signals that they are going to try and be they will have to add at least two more bats, and a pair of relievers.
Who should the Yankees try and go after next?
Isaac Paredes and Pete Fairbanks can help the Yankees if they can strike an in-divisional trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and would address first base and the bullpen. The Yankees also seem to be involved in trade talks with the San Francisco Giants for closer Camilo Doval.
The Yankees can also look to add Nico Hoerner, who would address the speed issue even further and would make the Yankees a more contact centered team, which is something they have lacked.
Conclusion: The Yankees cannot be finished making deals prior to Tuesday’s trade deadline, where they turn next is up in the air, but there will definitely be more to come.
