Rutgers Commemorate 50 Years of Women’s Hoops
It was an afternoon to remember as Rutgers rolled out the scarlet carpet to celebrate 50 years of women’s collegiate basketball at the University.
Members of the 1982, 2000, and 2007 teams were honored with a stirring halftime ceremony. Members also held a meet and greet with fans prior to the tip-off of the Rutgers-Michigan contest.
“It’s unbelievable. How much has happened over those 50 years? So much positivity; so much success; so many great moments for this community. For the players and coaches who went through this program. It’s always great for me to see the alums and for them to support us,” Head Coach Coquese Washington said.
RUTGERS vs. MICHIGAN
Despite a higher shooting percentage than the Wolverines, Rutgers fell to Michigan 56-50 on Sunday afternoon.
Rutgers was within striking distance of the lead in the stretch drive before Michigan’s Lauren Hansen drained a three-pointer to give the Wolverines a 52-47 lead with 1:03 to go. Rutgers couldn’t get closer.
It was still a productive day on the boards for the Scarlet Knights. Jillian Hueter led all scorers with 12 points, while Destiny Adams contributed 11 points.
Rutgers outshot Michigan 43.9 percent to 36.4 percent. Rutgers also outrebounded Michigan 34-33.
All eight players who touched the floor for Rutgers recorded points in the effort.
Rutgers sits at 6-15 on the year and 0-8 in the Big Ten.
