Rutgers Women’s Soccer Clinch No. 6 Seed in Big Ten Tournament
Rutgers women’s soccer heads into the Big Ten Tournament on a head of steam after defeating Northwestern 2-1 at Yurcak Field to complete the regular season with a record of 9-6-3.
Rutgers ended the regular slate winners of four of its last five games with wins against Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State and Northwestern.
According to a press release by Rutgers Athletics, the victory took a special meaning, as it was dedicated to Coach Mike O’Neil and his family. Coach O’Neil was not on the sideline Sunday grieving the loss of his sister.
Jumping Out First
It took a little more than 12 minutes before Rutgers got on board first when Sara Brocious took a header from Alison Lowry, and flicked it over the goalie for the first points of the day.
Finally in the 77th minute Rutgers added its lead when freshman Ashley Baran bounced the ball off the goalie and into the net to make it 2-0.
Meanwhile Rutgers goalie Olivia Bodmer recorded three saves for her ninth collegiate victory. She has started every game in goal for RU.
