“Receiving this award is incredibly humbling and a tremendous honor. I have passionately loved this game ever since I can remember,” Washington said. “Basketball has had such a strong impact on my life in so many ways, for so many years. I’ve been blessed to work with amazing players, exceptional assistant coaches, encouraging administrators, and wonderful mentors throughout my coaching journey.”
Washington becomes the first Rutgers coach to receive the WBCA Award. C. Vivan Stringer and Teresa Grentz each won the award, but when they were coaching at their other stops: Illionis and Iowa, respectively.
