The Rutgers Women’s Basketball team (11-19, 5-13) will square off with Northwestern in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday.

Tip-off of the game will be 25 minutes after the conclusion of the Minnesota-Penn State match-up which begins at 2 p.m. ET.

Northwestern and Rutgers faced one another just two weeks ago, February 15, at Jersey Mike’s Arena. Rutgers came away with a 62-48 win that evening. Kaylene Smikle led the way with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting, and Rutgers as a team shot 42 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter.

“I was really pleased with our defensive intensity in the fourth quarter,” head coach Coquese Washington said after that game, “Before going into the fourth quarter, we talked about how we had to be really good on the defensive end and rebounding. We had to finish off the game with a strong defensive quarter, and we did that.”

Should Rutgers advance it will face the same Illinois team it saw on Sunday in the regular season finale.
