Movie About Real Life Mobster To Be Filmed In New Jersey
If you’ve been following up with us you may know how New Jersey is slowly becoming the Hollywood of the east coast. Now, we have another example because a movie based off of real-life events is being filmed in New Jersey and what makes it perfect is that some people are comparing it to The Sopranos.
From NJ.com we learned about the movie titled The Trashers based on the real-life events of a minor league hockey team and a real-life man who was connected to the Genovese crime family. Jimmy Galante gifted the Danbury Trashers to his son A.J. The team which was a part of the United Hockey League disbanded in 2006, however, over the years of its operation it was known to have some well-known players like the younger brother of NHL superstar Wayne Gretzky.

What caused the team’s demise was the arrest and conviction of A.J’s father, Mr. Galante, on 72 counts of crimes such as tax evasion, wire fraud, and racketeering conspiracy. It was also found that Galante was making regular payments to the boss of the Genovese crime family, which for those who don’t know was one of the five major mafia families that ruled within the tri-state. The team and Galante family were part of a recent Netflix documentary titled ‘Untold: Crime & Penalties’ but now the movie that will be filmed somewhere in the Garden State will give us a clearer picture of the real events. Cooper Raiff director of the 2022 Cha Cha Real Smooth, is taking up the role of director with talented casts such as Stranger Things actor David Harbour and Elvis (2022) actress Olivia DeJonge. Alongside more standout actors such as Cooper Hoffman who will be playing A.J with Harbour as his father.
The film will start production this fall with the release date to be announced, though check out the film’s IMDB page by Clicking Here. With 30WEST the production company behind films like, The Contractor (2022) and Screwball (2018) helping out, The Thrashers, has a lot of promise.
