CINCINNATI, OHIO - DECEMBER 10: Chase Brown #30 of the Cincinnati Bengals runs with the ball during the game against the Indianapolis Colts at Paycor Stadium on December 10, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

As draft season approaches, we take a look at the potential middle/late round running back gems, that will help you win your fantasy league this season.

  • Chase Brown

It is expected that Brown will have the opportunity to be the starter coming out of training camp in Cincinnati, giving him the opportunity to be a major fantasy contributor this upcoming season. Brown will be in a high-powered offense that is expected to score a lot of points this season, and his pass-catching ability gives him the chance to be able to stay on the field more often than not, while also making him more valuable in PPR formats. It has been reported that throughout the off season and early on in training camp Brown has been practicing a lot more in a pass-catching role. Brown’s pass-catching ability, along with the guys he plays within his offense, offers the potential to be a fantasy stud this year producing week in and week out.

  • Ezekiel Elliot

Elliot is back with the Dallas Cowboys after one season with the New England Patriots, and he finds himself in a pretty good situation. Elliot had mostly all career lows last year with New England, but he is back in a good offense that should produce many points this season. Elliot is entering his 9th season as a pro and has just turned 29, even with a lot of miles on his legs it can be expected that Elliot has a bounce back season and produces at least productive RB2 numbers for fantasy managers this year. The best part about Elliot is that the draft capital it would take to acquire the service of Elliot is much lower than years past and is well worth the later round draft pick on a potential starting weekly fantasy running back. The value of Elliot may change as the season gets closer, if he rises up draft boards the value of Elliot will go down but where he sits right now Elliot has the potential to be a steal in drafts.

  • Nick Chubb

Chubb saw his season end early last year to a once again brutal ACL/knee injury. Chubb is expected to start the year on the PUP list meaning he will miss the first four weeks of the season. This situation is similar to Alvin Kamara’s last season where he missed the first few weeks due to a suspension and winded up being a really valuable fantasy player to whoever took him and waited it out. Chubb is expected to be in a better offense this season and will probably be eased back into games once he returns, but by the end of the year, Chubb can be producing elite RB1 numbers again and could be the driving force for a team that took the chance on him in the middle rounds win their league.

  • Trey Benson

Benson, who was the 66 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft signed a 4-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason. Benson is seemingly more valuable in dynasty and keeper leagues as he heads into the season behind veteran James Conner. Benson can jump over Conner in the depth chart as the season progresses, but to start the year Conner will be the guy leaving Benson going much later in fantasy drafts. Conner has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, and if he was to miss time Benson would jump right in and be a valuable fantasy player. Benson is the future in Arizona, so, were they to struggle, or if Conner starts the year off slow, expect Benson to see more playing time. Take Benson as a straight-value pick in the later rounds of your fantasy drafts this season.

  • Jaleel McLaughlin

McLaughlin produced a solid 5.4 yards per carry last year in his first year as a pro, even in a small sample size of 76 carries on the year he showed great play-making potential. McLaughlin is blocked by Javonte Williams, but that offense figures to potentially run the ball a lot, and should Williams get hurt McLaughlin will be a great fill in making him worth a pick in the later rounds of the draft.
