New Jersey Voters Vote Against College Sports Betting
If you like college sports betting, this is not news you want to hear.
New Jersey residents took a stand against sports betting to including all college events which would have included New Jersey based college teams.
With 97.5 percent of precincts reporting, 57 percent voted against the bill. Only 43 percent support it. More than 1 million people in the State voted against it. The final results are still not official.
Sports betting was legalized in the state of New Jersey back in 2018.
According to the Star Ledger and nj.com, New Jersey surpassed Nevada in sports wagering, becoming the first state to take in over $1 billion in sports bets in a single month, which was September.
“…[U]nder current state law, you can’t place bets in New Jersey on college sports teams located here or college sports events that take place here. That means no betting on Rutgers football or Seton Hall basketball,” NJ.COM.
In the other ballot question, voters overwhelmingly support allowing organizations to use proceeds from gaming to help support that organization. An example of that would be a bingo night where proceeds go to support a senior center.
