Gerrit Cole Sets Yankees Record for Strikeouts
Aaron Judge wasn’t the only one setting records on Tuesday night.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole set the franchise record for strikeouts by a pitcher in a single season by passing the legendary Ron Guidry in Texas on Tuesday night.
Cole set the mark with his 249th strikeout on the second batter of the game Nathaniel Lowe in the bottom of the first inning. Cole would go on to strikeout eight more batters, finishing with nine K’s on the night, and 257 strikeouts for the entire season.
Cole’s historical moment came in the same inning Judge hit his record setting home run creating a legendary night Yankees fans won’t soon forget.
Here is the moment Cole got the congratulatory call from Guidry himself.
