St. Peter’s Vs. Purdue Sweet 16 Preview
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks will take on the Purdue Boilermakers in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The Peacocks have become this year’s Cinderella team in the tournament. From beating Kentucky in overtime and beating Murry State, the Peacocks have turned doubters into believers. The trip down to Philadelphia will be their toughest yet.
The Purdue Boilermakers finished 14-6 in the Big Ten this year. They ranked second in the Big Ten in offensive rebounds per game with 9.8. Big man Zach Edey led the way averaging 3.2 per game.
The Boilermakers top player Jaden Ivey is tough to guard. He averages 17.6 points per game and gets 3.1 assists per game. Over the last 10 games Edey has stepped up and is averaging 9.7 points per game.
St. Peter’s went 14-6 in the MAAC this year. They ranked second in the MAAC in three point shooting at 35.5%. Their best shooter is Doug Edert who has a percentage of 42.5. He is also averaging 8.9 per game over the last 10 games.
If the Peacocks want to give themselves a chance they have to control the boards and limit Purdue on their fast breaks. They have to stay within themselves and stick to what got them here. Play through the guards and let them create. The Peacocks run great offensive sets and will not shoot unless they get the shot they want.
St. Peter’s and Purdue face off Friday night at 7:09.
