New York Giants Need to Swing for Fences on Quarterback Problem
The New York Giants find themselves in a predicament when it comes to the Quarterback position this off-season and it feels like the head coach and general manager can’t get it wrong if they want to keep their jobs after next season.
The Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only two teams that do not have a quarterback on the roster heading into the offseason.
Ironically one of the Steelers ‘ quarterbacks may wind up as the next Giants QB.
The Giants cost themselves the number one overall pick in the draft when they upset the Indianapolis Colts in week 17 potentially costing themselves their shot at a franchise QB in the draft.
The Giants sit third in the draft with the two teams ahead of them, the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns locked to take quarterbacks in the draft leaving the Giants in a predicament.
The Giants should move out of the number three spot and add more draft capital, looking elsewhere than the draft for a QB in the 2025 season.
Names like Kirk Cousins, Russel Wilson, Justin Fields, Sam Darnold, and Jimmy Garappolo can all be placeholders until next year’s draft. Load up on picks by moving out of the three spots and prepare to make a run for Arch Manning in the 2026 draft.
Look to add a skilled position player in this year’s draft and focus on giving Manning enough weapons to be able to succeed as soon as he enters the league.
With Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen’s jobs on the line this year it is highly unlikely the team will want to be picking atop the draft again next year unless it comes via a trade, making the move of the number three pick this year very important.
Will the Giants be able to compete next season?
If they add Cousins or Wilson, they will be a better team than they were this past season. It is also likely that those are the two most realistic options because it is unlikely Fields will leave Pittsburgh unless the team finds a significant upgrade.
