Yankees Closing in on Three Time Batting Champ
The New York Yankees have a chance to make up for the mistake they made when they didn’t land Luis Arraez the first go around.
Arraez, 27, struggles defensively but will be the leadoff hitter the Yankees have so desperately needed for years. With the Yankees losing Juan Soto they need some contact back in the lineup and adding the league’s best contact hitter will certainly make the Yankees and the team’s fans forget all about Soto. With all the other additions of course.
Arraez is a career .323 hitter who has won three consecutive batting titles and has less than 200 career strikeouts. Arraez does not hit for power as he has only hit 10 homers once in his career but on a team with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger, Arraez will be the perfect plate setter.
What could the Yankees give up?
Well, the Padres are said to be looking for more starting pitching and the Yankees are looking to move on from Marcus Stroman who is the odd man out in their rotation this year after the addition of Max Fried, so a deal centered around Stroman and prospect could be more than fair for both teams.
Arraez would make the Yankees 100 times better than they were last season, when you add all the other moves the team made since losing Soto to the Mets. Of course, that’s high praise for a team that made the World Series last year, but the Yankees roster from top to bottom will be so much more fundamentally sound this upcoming season.
With the off-season the Yankees are having, if they can land Arraez, losing out on Soto will be the best thing that ever happened to the team.
