Barkley Could Spark I-95 Rivalry by Spurning Giants for Eagles
Saquon Barkley is going to be a free agent next week, and in all likelihood, if reports and speculation are indeed true, he might not play for the New York Giants next season.
But that doesn’t preclude him from seeing his soon-to-be former team again. Reports are flying that that Philadelphia Eagles could swoop in and sign Barkley. In fact there is a mutual interest.
According to Pat Leonard of the Daily News, Barkley to the Eagles could indeed happen, and would automatically spice up what is an intense riavarly up and down I-95.
Pat Leonard on Twitter: "The Philadelphia Eagles had interest in Saquon Barkley last year, sources say, but he got tagged. Now he's free. "My close friends are still Eagles fans," Saquon Barkley said as a rookie in Nov. 2018. "They say they're Eagles fans but they're Barkley fans, as well. They'll wear... pic.twitter.com/BDV2nmONqm / Twitter"

Of course, the Eagles will have competition for Barkley services. Not only are the Giants still hopeful of a reunion, but the Chicago Bears, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens are among the potential landing spots.
Barkley who went to college at Penn State, and is a native of Coplay, Pennsylvania. While Barkley would add instant offense to the Eagles, the question would be whether Philly would be better off re-signing D’Andre Swift who ran for a career best 1,049 yards rushing last season. Swift is two years younger than Barkley. Plus the former Giant has an injury history.
Then again, Barkely has a stronger resume. He was a rookie of the year in 2018, and ran for over 1,300 yards just two seasons ago.
Imagine the fan reaction up and down the Jersey turnpike should Barkley turn in Giants blue for Eagles green!?!
While, we don’t have a crystal ball here at Fox Sports New Jersey, one would imagine that should Barkely sign in Philly, a Giants-Eagles matchup in the early part of the schedule sounds very enticing!
NFL Mock Draft 1.0: An Offense-Heavy Round 1
The “crazy season” portion of the NFL offseason is upon us! It began with the NFL Combine this weekend, which will quickly turn into the start of free agency next week. After that, the pro day circuit begins, and the NFL Draft will be here before we know it.
Looking ahead, the Combine helped set the tone for the weeks to come in two major ways. One – there’s now much more information on the prospects in this year’s NFL Draft up and down the board. That helps formulate projections.
On top of that, the rumor mill that is the Combine certainly was churning last week. With free agency still a week away, it allowed some foundation to make further assumptions about what teams will do in the coming weeks.
Working from that information, we have a decent idea of where things stand before the big-time decisions start to happen. With that, let’s kick off the week will our first full NFL Mock Draft of the season, to set the table for what’s to come.
After strong showings from both positions at the Combine, nearly half of the first round is made up of just wide receivers (eight total) and tackles (seven total). The Patriots are among the teams taking advantage of one of those groups, making a trade to give themselves two selections in the first round.
Note: Trades referenced were made for this mock specifically. Previously completed trades are not detailed.
