Warriors Draymond Green Suspended Indefinitely
Golden State’s Draymond Green will be out for the foreseeable future!
On Tuesday Draymond Green struck the Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face. while trying to get open for the ball on an out-of-bounds play.
Nurkic hit the floor in pain and Green was hit with a flagrant foul. He was subsequently ejected for the third time this season — tying for the most.
Following the incident, the NBA announced they were suspending Green indefinitely. The NBA released a statement Wednesday regarding the suspension. The league said they are taking into account Green’s repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts.
The Warriors’ general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., Green, and his agent Rich Paul met Thursday to discuss a path of counseling and assistance for Green according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The league didn’t put a number on the suspension so they can allow Green time to deal with his problems.
“He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he returns to play,” the NBA stated.
So far Green is tied for the most ejections this season. His first one was Nov. 11 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The second came three days later against the Minnesota Timberwolves where he had center Rudy Gobert in a headlock. The NBA suspended him for five games after that incident because of his history as a repeat offender.
After the game, Draymond apologized for hitting Nurkic. “I am not one to apologize for things I mean to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn’t intend to hit him,” said Green.
Green is one of the most important players on this team as he helped them win four championships. Also, he is one of the best defenders of this generation. This Warriors team needs him as they are 10-13 and Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins are struggling this season.
If Green is suspended for less than 20 games, he will lose more than $150,000 per game, but if more than 20 he will lose over $200,000 per game.
After punching his former teammate Jordan Poole last year at training camp, he disciplined himself instead of the Warriors doing it. According to an ESPN source that is when the Warriors lost control of Green because he was not held accountable for his actions.
Green has the most ejections out of any current player with 18.
