An early hole proved to be too much for Rutgers, as the men's soccer team fell to the Penn State Nittnay Lions 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, ending dreams of a Big Ten title repeat.

After nearly 42 minutes of scoreless soccer to open the game, Penn State finally struck when Mohamed Cisset nailed a header into the goal just before halftime to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.

The scoring opened up in the second half. First Penn State's Peter Mangione delivered a right footed kick into the back of the net to put the Lions up 2-0 in the 54th minute. Twenty minutes later, Van Danielson went one-on-one with Rutgers goalie Ciaran Dalton, who left the net to try to defend against Danielson.

Danielson slapped it home passed a diving Rutgers goaltender.

Rutgers finally got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute when Nick Collins connected on a header to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Rutgers is 5-8-3 on the season.
