Rutgers football (6-2) will kick-off against Ohio State (7-0) on November 4 at 12 noon from SHI Stadium.
The university will also recognize veterans throughout the afternoon for Military Appreciation Day as the game falls exactly one week before Veteran’s Day.
The Scarlet Knights will wear white helmets with the American Flag inside the block R on each side of the helmet. A flyover by the National Guard will accompany the National Anthem according to a press release by Rutgers Athletics.
Meanwhile the R Heroes initiative returns for an eighth year. The R Heroes Initiative was created in 2015 as an opportunity for Rutgers fans to sponsor tickets to veterans, first responders and educators. Over 15,000 tickets were donated last year in 2022.
According to a Rutgers press release: “members of the military community will line the field to welcome the team out of the tunnel. At halftime, the Marching Scarlet Knights will salute veterans with recognition of each branch of the military as part of an arrangement of “Armed Forces Salute.” The 300-member strong band is nearing their national performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.”
Moreover, the Rutgers Boardwalk will open at 8 a.m. with military vehicles on site. Member of the military will also be on hand to interact with fans, and trust us there will be plenty of giveaway’s.
Rutgers will be looking for the program’s first ever win over Ohio State in football. The Scarlet Knights clinched bowl eligibility in their 31-14 win over Indiana on Saturday.
