Rutgers Field Hockey remains unbeaten after striking down Monmouth by the count of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon. The No. 6 team in the land broke a two-all tie in the fourth quarter to hold off the Hawks in this intra-state battle in Piscataway.
Bridy Molyneaux broke the tie in the 51st minute when she took a feed from Paulina Nikluas, redirected the ball in front of the net and took her shot. About a minute later Julianne Kopec put the puck into the back of the net to give Rutgers a two-goal advantage.
Meanwhile, Gullermina Causarano notched her 10th goal of the year, and Marque Dieudonne tallied a goal for Rutgers in the victory.
MEN'S SOCCER
Out in Illinois, the Rutgers men's soccer team fell to Northwestern 2-0, despite outshooting the Widcats 19-18.
Ola Maeland led Rutgers with five shots, including one shot on goal, while Curt Calvo tallied four shots for Rutgers.
For Northwestern, Uga Achara broke the scoreless tie in the 79th minute on a double-assist by Jayvin Van Deventer and Justin Wiess. Van Deventer tallied his first goal of the year some seven minutes later for the Wild Cats.
Rutgers falls to 3-6-2 with the loss. The Scarlet Knights are now 1-5 away from Yurcak Field this season.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Finally, the Rutgers women's soccer team got back on track with a 1-0 victory over Maryland out in College Park on Saturday.
Kylie Daigle broke the scoreless tie in the 85th minute on a penalty kick that sailed past the outstretch hands of Maryland's netminder Liz Beardsley.
Olivia Bodmer recorded the shutout victory with a pair of saves. Rutgers improved to 6-5-3 with the victory. They will host Michigan on Thursday.
