Mets Part Ways with Manager Buck Showalter
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 27: Manager Buck Showalter #11 of the New York Mets heads back to the dugout in the seventh inning against the Miami Marlins during game one of a double header at Citi Field on September 27, 2023 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The New York Mets officially parted ways with Manager Buck Showalter, with the latter announcing he is stepping down during his daily pre-game press conference before Sunday’s regular season finale.
“We got some new leadership coming in,” an emotional Showalter said. “Billy and the organizaton in fairness to me gave me the option to stepping aside… I appreciate that. The new leadership are going in a new direction with the manager next year.”

And just like that, the man who won 101 games and was the N.L. Manager of the Year in 2022 is out the door one year later.
It was a disappointing year for the Mets in 2023 for sure. The team fell well short of expectations, winning only 74 games. The Mets gambled on uniting veterans Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer at the top of the rotation, and by August 1 both pitchers were traded to Houston and Texas respectively.
The catastrophic injury to Edwin Diaz in the World Baseball Classic back in March certainly didn’t help, and early season slumps by Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor proved to be too much to handle.
When Steve Cohen ended his yearlong pursuit of David Stearns to be his new President of Baseball Operations, the future of Showalter was certainly a question mark. Many suspected that Stearns would want to bring in his own guy to manage the club. He will get that shot.
Rumors have swirled for weeks that current Brewers manager Craig Counsel could be a target for Stearns.
Counsel is a free agent after the season ends for Milwaukee, who are NL Central Champs.
As he gave out his final lineup card as Mets manager, the entire team poured out of the dugout to give Showalter an emotional ovation.
Showalter’s Place in history
In two seasons, Showalter won 159 games with the Mets. His .554 winning percentage is second highest in Mets history among full time skippers trailing only Davey Johnson, who finished with a .588 winning percentage.

Hey there, it’s Kelley here again for some extremely important news…pet Halloween costumes! Specifically, 9 of the most popular pet costumes for 2023! Every item on this list received a minimum of one thousand reviews and had at least four stars. You know I would never steer you wrong when it involves dogs or any other furry, fuzzy, or feathered friend.
Pretty much every year for the last nine years I’ve said to myself out loud ‘no way, I won’t torture Walter with a costume’ and then it’s October 31st and he’s giving me major side eye because of the (insert adorable costume here) I made him wear. To be fair, I only keep it on long enough to get a picture and until he eventually wriggles out of it on his own. I can’t help it, there are just so many great costumes out there.
Some of you probably pass out candy or even go trick-or-treating with your pets too I imagine! Every year, I see a few walking around the neighborhood and I’m always so excited to see them dressed up. I mean, who said Halloween had to just be for humans? Plus, some of the funniest costumes are great for pets. Like the ones where it looks like they’re holding a package or have tiny human-like legs? Hilarious!
And I know not everyone has a dog, so I’ve included a few other ideas for your cat or even your hedgehog. Who knew? If you purchase one of these popular pet costumes share a picture of your pet dressed up with us on social!
