Colin Kaepernick Contacts Jets As Gang Green Signs Trevor Siemian
If things couldn’t get weirder for the New York Jets, it did on Tuesday. Hours after it was announced the team had signed journeyman quarterback Trevor Siemian to its practice squad, one of the most polarizing athletes of our generation crafted a letter to the Jets and General Manager Joe Douglas about joining the team.
Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played football in over seven years, but that hasn’t stopped him in his pursuit to return to the NFL. On Tuesday a letter penned by Kaepernick was revealed on X by rapper J. Cole.
Kaepernick makes the case that his addition to the team’s practice squad would give the Jets a competitive advantage against mobile quarterbacks.
However, the chances of this happening are extremely remote. Whether you agree with his stance on national social justice issues or not, Kaepernick became a political pariah from both sides of the political isle. His addition to any team would not only come with the risk of a player who hasn’t seen the field in years, but, it would come with a lot of media attention, including negative attention.
Meanwhile, this response by Jets owner Woody Johnson to an old Tweet from 2016 doesn’t help his case.
TREVOR SIEMIAN SIGNS
Before the Kaepernick buzz took over the Internet, the Jets did sign journeyman Trevor Siemian to the practice squad. If the name sounds familiar, it should. Siemian was a member of the Jets — albeit briefly in 2019, when he started a week 2 game against Cleveland in the place of Sam Darnold who contracted mononucleosis at the time.
Siemian wound up suffering a sever knee injury and never played for New York again.
REACTION
As expected, reaction to Siemian’s signing was mixed to mostly negative; these are Jets fans after all.
Don’t change Jets fans. Don’t change.
