The fall sports season is underway at Rutgers. Men's soccer opened up the 2023 season on August 24 with a 3-2 loss to Delaware, while Women's soccer wound up in a 1-1 tie with NC State on Thursday, and stands at 1-1-1 after three games.

The defending Big Ten Tournament champions fell to the Blue Hens of Delaware 3-2, despite getting off 17 shots in the season opener.

Cirian Dalton, who had a fantastic season as a freshman last year, was charged with three goals in defeat.

The Blue Hens scored first when Carlos Fernandez took a pass from midfield, caught up to the ball, and bounced it past a diving Dalton to give Delaware a 1-0 lead.

Rutgers answered the challenge when Saahb Kular knotted the game up at one with a header in the closing seconds of the first half.

Unfortunately for Rutgers, Delaware would tack on a pair of late second period goals to take a 3-1 lead. Cole Cruthers would get Rutgers back into play with a goal in the 88th minute.

Rutgers (0-1) hosts St. John's in its home opener on August 28.

Rutgers Women's soccer

Rutgers' women (1-1-1) had to settle for a 1-1 tie with unbeaten NC State (1-0-2) on August 25.

In front of a sell out crowd, Allison Lowrey netted her second goal of the year when she took a pass from Sara Brocious, with an assist from Allison Lynch that gave Rutgers a 1-0 lead.

Rutgers would hold that 1-0 lead until the 88th minute when NC State's Annika Wohner nailed the game-tying goal.

Rutgers (1-1-1) won its opener on August 17, 2-0 against Holy Cross, before suffering a 1-0 loss to Hofstra on August 20.

The Scarlet Knights face FDU on August 28.

Meanwhile, the Rutgers Field Hockey team opens its season on Friday at UC Davis. It's the first of a three-game California trip that Rutgers is participating in.
