Alonso Homer Send Mets to First Series Win in a Month
Someone break up the Mets!
The Amazin’s won their second consecutive game to start the month of July, and won a series for the first time in over a month after Sunday night’s 8-4 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Pete Alonso, a mere few hours after learning he was named to the 2023 All-Star team as a reserve for the National League, had a monster night.
The Polar Bear went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a gargantuan two-run homer in the eighth inning that put the ballgame away.

How important was this game to the Mets? Well, manager Buck Showalter managed it like a playoff game, going to seven different pitchers to try to lock down the victory.
It wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination.
BULLPEN MESS
With the Mets leading 5-1 in the seventh inning, reliever Jeff Brigham surrendered a two-run bomb to Blake Sobel to cut the Mets lead to 5-3. Brigham stayed in the ballgame, struck out Wilmer Flores, and gave up a single to Thairo Estrada, before Showalter went back to the pen.
Moments later, Dominic Leone proceeded to give up a RBI double to ex-Met J.D. Davis that sliced the Mets lead to 5-4.
The Amazin’s kept their fans on pins and needles the rest of the night.

After Brett Raley was lifted with a runner on and two out in the top of the eighth inning, reliever Adam Ottavino just didn’t have it on the mound. His first six pitches were out of the strike zone, which included a walk to Flores, and hitting Estrada with a pitch.
After a quick chat with Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, Ottavino was able to strike out Davis swinging to get out of the jam.
STAYING HOT
Tommy Pham continues to raise his stock on the trade market. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Starling Marte got off the schnied with a RBI single in the seventh inning. He has been struggling of late.
