Rodon Completes Second Rehab Outing in Somerset
Another solid outing is in the books for Yankees starter Carlos Rodon who tossed four innings of shutout ball in his second rehab outing with the Double-A Somerset Patriots on Sunday.
Sporting the bright orange alternate uniform of the Zorros de Somerset, Rodon worked to contact against the hitters of the double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Strikeout number 4 in the fourth. 50 pitches by my count. We’ll see if that’s it for the day for Carlos Rodon. #RepBx @foxSportsNJ pic.twitter.com/rcjXlQwxxI

On 49 pitches, Rodon struck out four batters; the other eight hitters all made outs on contact. He got a huge ground ball double-play off the bat of Damiano Palmegriani to get out of the first inning.
“I thought I was good with the fastball. They barrelled some balls. We got out of it unscathed. So I was trying to drop some curve balls in the second and third inning and started finding it,” Rodon said. “I was just trying to deploy all the pitches.”
An inning later, after serving up a loud lead-off double to Rainer Nunez, Rodon came back to strike out Phil Clark, and jam Sebastian Espinosa and PK Morris on putouts.
Rodon completed the afternoon striking out Nunez swinging in the fourth inning.
Rodon’s next outing will be discussed by Yankees as to whether he makes another start in Double-A or moves up to face Triple-A hitters in his next outing. The Yankees hope he can be back in the rotation rather soon.
As for the game itself, it was a wild one.
The Fisher Cats took it 8-7, despite making four errors in the field. Somerset didn’t help itself with a pair of errors in its own right.

Somerset held a 3-0 lead thanks in major part to a two-base error by the Fischer Cats, allowing a pair of runs to score in the second inning.
New Hampshire responded with four runs in the fifth inning after Rodon came out of the ballgame.
The Patriots came back to tie the game at five on a ground ball force out by Matt Pita. That led to Trey Sweeney’s two-run double that gave the Patriots a 7-5 lead.
Unfortunately for Somerset Leo Jiminez powered the Fisher Cats with a two-run double to decide in the eighth.
Somerset is back in action Wednesday at Bowie.
