The Somerset Patriots, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees inked out a 3-2 victory over Erie on Sunday, on the same afternoon Yankees No. 9 prospect Yoendrys Gomez returned from the injury list for his first Double-A action of the season.
Gomez, who started four games for the Patriots last season (1-0, 3.19 ERA in 16.1 innings of work), was solid in his first start of the year. He tossed three innings of shutout baseball. He faced only 10 batters and threw 38 pitches.
Welcome back, Yoendrys Gomez!

Unfortunately, Gomez did not factor into the decision, but the Patriots bullpen was up to the task, as the Pats built a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning.
Mickey Gasper was the man of the hour, platting three runs on a right field double off righty Billy Lescher to give Somerset that nice cushion.
Mick the kid!!!

After dropping four of the first five games of this series, the Patriots salvaged the finale and will head home to prep for a MONSTER series with the Portland SeaDogs that begins Tuesday at TD Bank Ballpark. Keep in mind on Saturday, the Patriots will commemorate 25 years of Patriots baseball at TD Bank.
