Fans in Somerset will recall that Vasquez pitched for the Somerset Patriots, the Yankees Double-A affiliate, last season. In 25 games with the Patriots, Vasquez was 2-7 with a 3.90 ERA and 120 strikeouts over 115.1 innings pitched.
Vasquez finished among the Eastern League leaders during the 2022 season in ERA (3.90, 2nd), games started (25, T-3rd), opponents’ batting average against (.239, 4th), innings pitched (115.1, 8th) and strikeouts (120, 9th).
