The New York Rangers didn’t even need to hit the ice in order to clinch a playoff berth. The Ottawa Senators did the Blue Shirts the service by defeating the Florida Panthers 5-2.
The Rangers are currently ranked as a sixth seed in the playoffs, and could face the New Jersey Devils in the first round. Currently Jersey is two points behind Carolina despite getting plastered by the New York Islanders 5-1 on Monday night.
Gerard Gallant was asked about the possibility of the Rangers, Devils, and Islanders all making the playoffs:

The Islanders, who needed that victory over the Devils are sitting pretty right now in one of the two remaining wild card slots in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders would be a seventh seed should the postseason begin today.
