Devils & Rangers can’t Gain Ground on Canes
WILD 2 – DEVILS 1 / HURRICANES 3 – RANGERS 2
Not only are the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils in a battle for second place in the Metro Division, both teams are trying to catch the Carolina Hurricanes at the top of the division as the regular season nears its close.
Tuesday night was not a good one for either team’s cause.
The Devils fell to the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in the final seconds of overtime at the Prudential Center. Matt Boldy boldly skated down the right side of the rink, and took his best shot and netted the game winner as time expired in overtime to stun the Devils. The loss was Jersey’s fourth it its last five games.

As for the Blue Shirts, they fared no better against the Canes. A 1-0 lead courtesy of a goal by Tyler Motte couldn’t be maintained as the Hurricanes stormed back in the final period. Jalen Chatfield tied it with a goal midway through the third period, before Kappo Kakko gave the Rangers a brief 2-1 lead.
