Rutgers Men’s Soccer Tops Michigan for First Time Since 2015
It’s been seven years since Rutgers Men’s Soccer last defeated the Michigan Wolverines. On Friday night that skid came to an end when RU topped Michigan 2-1 behind goals by MD Meyers and Ian Abbey, as Rutgers improved to 7-3-5 on the season.
“We’ve played really well in a bunch of games this year and tied them or got nothing out of it,” said head coach Jim McElderry, “but the players just wanted to do anything they could to get a win tonight and I am really proud of their effort and commitment.”
Meyers, the nation’s leading scorer added to that total when he netted his 13th goal of the year when he bounced a header into the net on a feed by Thomas DeVizio to put Rutgers up 1-0 in the 14th minute.

Three minutes later, Michigan answered on a goal by Nicholas Kaloukian that tied the game at one.
Things would remain tied into the second half. However eight minutes into the period, Rutgers found the back of the net again when Abbey took a shot at the top corner of the box as the ball glided to the left corner of the net to put Rutgers up 2-1.
