Rutgers Scarlet Knights Football vs. Temple Preview
The Scarlet Knights will head to Philadelphia Saturday afternoon to face Temple. They will be looking for a 3-0 start for the second season in a row.
Last week the Scarlet Knights faced off against Wagner. The Knights took care of them early, scoring touchdowns on the first four drives of the first and second halves. Rutgers won 66-7, 66 is the most points scored under head coach Greg Schiano. They held Wagner to 19 rushing yards, the 12th time the Scarlet Knights have held an opponent to less than 30 rushing yards. This was the second straight week doing so.
The Scarlet Knights rank second nationally in rushing defense (24.0), seventh in rushing offense (262.5), ninth in total defense (228.5), and 21st in scoring offense (44.0). The new defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak has done a great job with this defense so far. Last year at Minnesota he did the same thing. Their rushing defense was ranked eighth and total defense was ranked third nationally.
Rutgers and Temple faced off last year in the season opener when Rutgers beat them 61-14. The Scarlet Knights scored in five different ways that game. Scored on a safety, receiving touchdown, a rushing touchdown, a pick-six, and a field goal. Six rushing touchdowns overall. They also won the turnover battle with three fumbles and two interceptions.
The Scarlet Knights will look for another dominant result against Temple like last year. If they can win this game they give themselves great momentum into BIG Ten play as they face Iowa next Saturday.
For those attending the game, Rutgers fans are invited to the official pregame tailgate/pep rally at Xfinity Live outside of Lincoln Financial Field. For others who will not be at the game, you can listen on Fox Sports New Jersey 93.5-FM/1450-AM or watch on ESPN+ (ESPN App).
