Struggles Continue for Rutgers Softball, Skid Hits 10 Games
ILLINOIS 9 – RUTGERS 1
It was the tale of two teams in opposite directions as Illinois won their 10th in a row with a 9-1 victory over Rutgers. The loss was the 10th straight for the Scarlet Knights; Rutgers has now lost 12 of its last 13 games, and stand at 23-22 on the season, 1-11 in the Big Ten.
Delaney Rummell’s grand slam in the top of the third inning broke the game open for Illinois at 5-0.
Gabrielle Callaway had another huge day offensively for Rutgers, accounting for all three hits, including her team leading ninth home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth inning. She battled .444 with a double, home run and three RBI in the series.

Ashley Hitchcock got the start for Rutgers, giving up five runs, one earned, over 2.2 innings of work, and even got an incredible catch in right field by Kobie Hura.

Rutgers will return to action Tuesday looking to end snap its 10-game skid against Maryland.
