Rutgers’ Kyleigh Sand Honored as Big Ten Softball Co-Player of the Week
Kyleigh Sand’s phenomenal week at the plate for Rutgers is getting full recognition from the Big Ten, who named her Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
The sophomore shortstop batted .619 (13-for-21) over the past six games, driving in eight, scoring 10 runs, a home run, and a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen bases. On the season, Sand is leading the team in batting average (.389), hits (39) and runs scored (21). She is second on the team in RBI (49). Sand is the third Scarlet Knight to earn Big Ten Weekly honors this season. Maddie Lawson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice already this season.
What happens when you hit .619 with 13 hits, 10 runs and eight RBIs along with stealing six bases and an extra-inning walk-off in a 5-1 weekend?

Against St. Peter’s and Fairfield on Friday afternoon, Sand went a combined 7-of-8 with five RBI and four runs scored in a pair of victories.
On Saturday in an 8-0 win over Holy Cross, Sand scored three runs including coming around to score on Gabrielle Callaway’s walk-off homer.
Sand capped off the weekend against Drexel with a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the ninth inning that sent Rutgers to a 4-3 win.
