Rutgers’ Sebastian Rivera Advances to Wrestling Quarterfinals
Rutgers’ Sebastian Rivera, who is ranked as the number three seed in the NCAA Wrestling Championship is moving on to the quarterfinals, which take place this morning.
Rivera defeated three-time All-American Chad Red Jr. (Nebraska) in the 141 pound category as Rutgers wrapped up Session II of the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Thursday night in Detroit. Rivera won the match-up 7-6 in a back-and-forth battle with Red Jr. The deciding points came in overtime when Red Jr. was called for stalling with 19 seconds to go.
No. 14 seed Greg Bulsak (197), No. 12 seed Michael VanBrill (149), No. 20 seed John Poznanski (184) , No. 22 seed Joseph Olivieri (133), and No. 23 seed Dlyn Shawver (125) all have a shot on the backend of the bracket heading into Friday’s morning session at Little Caesars Arena.
