Is Phil Martelli Capable of Leading Michigan After Juwan Howard’s Suspension?
Just in from the University of Michigan as Phil Martelli, steps up to replace suspended head coach Juwan Howard. Martelli is confident having stepped up on numerous occasions over his four decades in college basketball. However, will he be able to help his team secure a NCAA bid?
Michigan started the season ranked No. 6. Now they have 11 losses, won’t make the NCAA tournament, and to top it all off, Juwan Howard is starting brawls with opposing coaches.

Well, this news is all coming after previous coach Juwan Howard was suspended for the rest of the regular season after getting into an altercation with Wisconsin coach Greg Gard during the postgame handshake lineup. After a bit of pushing and yelling this resulted in Howard punching Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft. The Big Conference holds sportsmanship in high regard thus, on top of the game suspension Howard was fined $40,000 and Gard was fined $10,000. Juwan Howard gave his thoughts in a post game conference that the reason the situation has escalated was because Gard has touched him.

Even some students who appeared to throw punches were also suspended but luckily for the players their suspension is only one game. But will this change really influence the Michigan Wolverines? Well, Martelli admitted to not having as much of an offensive mind as Howard, but with his many years working as a leader as well as having assistant coach Howard Eisley acting as offensive coordinator. They may be able to not only get a bid for their team, but go all the way to the finals and win depending on how they play and who they go against.
