RUTGERS 59 – St.PETER’S 38
On the same day word came down that they would play the entire 2021-22 season without their Hall of Fame Head Coach, the Rutgers women’s basketball team opened the season with a 59-38 victory over St. Peter’s.
Liz Martino led the way with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting and six assists, while Osh Brown contributed eight points and 11 boards.

While it was a low shooting night for Rutgers, they shot only 40 percent from the floor, St. Pete’s really struggled to get their offense going, connecting on only 10 of 45 shots (22 percent).
Still the Peacocks were able to close the deficit to five points thanks to an 11-1 run, capped off by a Sky Castro layup that made it 34-29 Rutgers in the third quarter.
A three-ball with 42 seconds to go in the third period by Rutgers’ Jailyn Mason ended St. Peter’s run, while simultaneously starting an 8-0 run for Rutgers as the Scarlet Knights built a 42-29 lead.
