Giants running back Saquon Barkley is believed to have suffered an ankle injury in the Giants wild comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. There is a sense of optimism that the G-Men avoided a major injury to their second most productive offensive player.
Barkley’s status for Thursday night’s match-up in San Francisco is up in the air. Barkley was injured in the fourth quarter with 1:11 to go in the game with the score tied at 28. He was helped off the field to the sideline where a visibly angered Barkley was examined.
Barkley played a large role in the Giants’ comeback, scoring two touchdowns, one rushing, and one receiving. His second touchdown, a nine-yard reception from quarterback Daniel Jones cut the Cardinals’ lead down to 28-21 in the fourth quarter.
The Giants would tie the game on an 11-yard reception by Isiah Hodgins with 4:25 to go. Finally, with 19 seconds left, the Giants kicked the game-winner by Graham Gano from 34 yards out.
Daniel Jones the Savior:
Daniel Jones was spectacular in the second half, finishing the night with 321 yards passing and two touchdowns.
The Giants needed Jones to be great after falling behind 20-0 at the half, and 28-7 in the third quarter.
“It’s about execution,” Jones said afterward. “You can’t really afford to get emotional or think about anything outside of what your job is, and that’s to execute, focus on one play at a time and be in that play.”
Crucial Win:
The victory averts total disaster for the Giants. They were starting down the barrel at 0-2, and an uncertain future with the Cowboys, Eagles, and Commanders all off to 2-0 starts. An 0-2 start with the 49ers upcoming would have been a near-fatal blow to the Giants season.
Next Up:
The Giants face the San Francisco 49ers (2-0) on Thursday night from Santa Clara, California.
