Rutgers Win Streak Snapped by Penn State
PENN STATE 66 – RUTGERS 49
A rare poor shooting night doomed the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, as the program’s four game winning streak came to an end in Happy Valley 66-49 to Penn State.
Rutgers shot only 33 percent from the floor (19-of-56) as Ron Harper Jr. and Geo Baker both struggled, combining for 14-points between the two of them. Harper was 2-of-9 from the floor, while Baker was 3-of-12. The player with the best night for the Scarlet Knights was Clifford Omoruyi, who had a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) on the evening.

Rutgers fell behind early, and never really got going offensively as Penn State jumped out to a 21-8 lad with 8:18 left to play in the first half. Rutgers was able to close the gap to four points, 35-31 when Harper drilled a three-pointer with 11:45 to go in the game, but that was as close as Rutgers would get. A pair of three’s by Penn State’s Seth Lundy and Sam Sessoms sparked an 8-0 Penn State run to grab a 43-31 lead. The Nittany Lions never looked back.
Sessions was the games’ leading-scorer with 17 points. He was (7-10) from the field. Guard Jalen Pickett finished with 15 points on the night. Big man John Harrar had 16 points and six boards, while shooting (6-8) from the field. Forward Seth Lundy added 10 points, four rebounds, three blocks and a steal.
Rutgers (9-6, 3-2) continues their road trip on Saturday when they visit Maryland at 2 p.m. Catch the action on 1450 AM, 93.5 FM, Fox Sports New Jersey.
