Rutgers Field Hockey Defeats Delaware, Advances to Next Round
Rutgers Field Hockey captured its first NCAA Tournament victory since 1986 with a 2-1 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens to advance to the second round, which will take place on Sunday in Piscataway. The victory is the 13th win for Rutgers against a ranked opponent.
Liz Romano tallied the first goal of the day three minutes into a scoreless second quarter to give Rutgers a 1-0 lead.

RU would hold onto that slim lead deep into the fourth quarter when Lucy Bannatyne netted her eighth goal of the year for Rutgers to make it 2-0 with a little less than six minutes to go in the contest. Milena Redlingshoefer recorded both assists.

Rutgers goalie Gianna Glatz got the victory, recording four saves.
“I’m really proud of the group for advancing,” head coach Meredith Civico told scarletknights.com. “That’s huge. They earned that. The team has been so consistent. Our backs and defensive group defended so hard. Glatz made some key saves. The defensive effort and grit was what won the game for us today.”
Rutgers the number 1 seed in the tournament will host the winner of St. Joe’s/Liberty on Sunday at 1 p.m.
