Kevin Durant and the Nets Move Forward Together
Kevin Durant will be playing for the Brooklyn Nets in the 2022-2023 season.
Back on June 30th, Durant shook the NBA world by requesting a trade from the Nets. Now he will be back in a Nets uniform with his eyes on a championship.
Durant met with owner Joe Tsai, co-owner Clara Wu Tsai, general manager Sean Marks and Coach Steve Nash in Los Angeles Monday. All sides agreed to move forward with the partnership and stop the trade rumors.
“We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn,” Marks added.

Coming into last season the Nets were the favorites to win the whole thing. The season did not go as planned and the Nets barely made the playoffs and got swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round. It’s not clear as to why Durant wanted a trade but obviously, the way the season ended did not sit with him well.
During the offseason, Kyrie was due for an extension and the Nets refused to give him one. Forcing him to opt-in to the final year of his contract.
With Durant running things last season by himself he had the team at the top of the Eastern Conference. He had a franchise record in 29.9 points last season before a knee injury sidelined him for 21 games.
The Nets this season should be the favorites once again. Durant, Irving, and Ben Simmons will be the big three. After not playing last season all reports say he should be ready to go. They will get their sharpshooter Joe Harris back from injury after only appearing in 14 games last season.
Brooklyn was able to resign center Nic Claxton, forward Kessler Edwards, and veteran guard Patty Mills. They added free agents T.J. Warren and Edmond Sumner. They also got a great 3-and-D player in Royce O’Neale in a trade with the Utah Jazz.
The Nets dealing Durant in trade could’ve happened if it wasn’t for the Jazz trading Gobert to the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves gave up four players and draft picks to get Gobert. After that, the Nets’ price got steeper asking for star players, solid role players, and draft picks. They wanted to still be a team that was competing for championships.
This season will be a true test to see where the leadership is for Durant and Irving. Both the teams they left to come to Brooklyn made it to the Finals and that has to be motivation for this season. There will be added pressure along with the motivation, the expectations this year will be championship or bust no matter what. Just like the last couple of seasons. If they don’t make it out of the east this year Irving will more than likely leave after this final year of his contract. Durant could mess around and try to force his way out again. They will have no choice but to make it work this season.
