Jets Land Davante Adams Following Monday Night Debacle
The New York Jets landed star wide receiver Davante Adams in a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders in the early morning hours, Tuesday, less than 12 hours following a disheartening 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.
The move reunites Adams with his favorite quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The pending Adams-Rodgers reunion has been the worst-kept secret in the NFL for some time. The Jets tried to make a move for Adams last season, but the Raiders balked on a trade. The talks between the two fledging franchises heated up again this summer and started boiling as the trade deadline neared.
According to reports, the Jets surrendered a third-round pick, which could become a second-rounder. Meanwhile Gang Green will assume all of Adams’ contract, which has to have the Raiders clicking their heels.
If the numbers in Adams contract hold true, and are not reworked, the Jets would owe him over $83 million for the next three seasons. As Jets beat writer Rich Cimini tweeted out, the deal has to be reworked.
Mike Williams
The trade could spell the end of Mike Williams’ Jets tenure. Williams was on the short end of the final play of the game on Monday when he slipped on the route, and Rodgers pass was intercepted by Taron Johnson to cement the Bills’ victory.
There is no doubt that Adams is talented. Even at 32, he’s considered as one of the best receivers in the game, and enjoyed his best years with Rodgers while the two were in Green Bay.
Talent alone, the Jets get an upgrade at receiver, but will it really make a difference on a team that was called for 11 penalties on Monday night, showed a lack of discipline, couldn’t pass protect, and couldn’t tackle?
HAASON REDDICK UPDATE
The bizarre Haason Reddick situation keeps taking twisted turns every day. Now reports indicate the Jets have granted Reddick permission to seek a trade.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that Reddick’s new representation, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha have been reaching out to teams across the NFL to gauge interest in a trade with the Jets. Reddick hired Rosenhaus as his agent after CAA dropped the former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker, due to his ongoing holdout with the Jets.
Reddick has been holding out from the Jets since the team acquired him in a deal with the Eagles back in April. He never reported to off-season workouts or training camp, asking for a new contract. When Reddick didn’t the deal he wanted, he requested a trade, according to reports at the time.
