The New York Giants somehow pulled off a robbery. The Cardinals are trading now safety Isaiah Simmons to the Giants for a seventh-round pick. Yes, you read that correctly.
Simmons was drafted eighth in the 2020 draft, coming out of Clemson. He can play multiple positions, according to Darren Urban Cardinals reporter, Simmons played 409 snaps at slot cornerback, 297 in the box, 110 on the defensive line, 28 as wide cornerback and 53 as free safety. He spent most of his time in the secondary and was recruited in college as a safety.

The new general manager in Arizona declined Simmons’ fifth-year option earlier this year.
In week 2 of the preseason, Simmons played 25 snaps at his new position of safety. In the offseason, he told the Cardinals’ head coach Jonathan Gannon that he didn’t want to play linebacker anymore. By June he decided to work out with the defensive backs. Reports from ESPN say his role in the secondary has evolved from slot corner to free safety.

“I don’t think it was an issue of what Isaiah did, he did everything that we asked him to do,” Gannon said on the Cardinals website.
In camp, he has been learning his new position and has said he is getting comfortable at safety and is enjoying it.
Now that Simmons is in Wink’s defense Wink will have a lot to play with here. Simmons can be brought up to the line, lined up in the slot, at free safety, or one of the linebacker spots.
The Giants got one of the best pickups in the offseason, this defense will be scary to watch on Sundays.
